Nikon Z50 WHY I’m Returning It!
The Nikon Z50 is a fantastic little camera, but in this video I give the reasons why I am returning it after 6 months. I’ve used this Z50 for a lot of different types of photography including portrait, astro, landscape, birds and wildlife. The Nikon Z50 1.5 crop factor comes in very handy when photographing birds with different lenses. But it’s time to say good-bye, this is why…
Trust me there are no “bad” reasons why I am returning the Nikon Z50. It’s a great little camera for the price. I was always a bit of a cynic when it comes to APS-C cameras, but this little Z50 has changed my mind.

Nikon Z50 Bird Photography | My Settings & Technique!
In this Nikon Z50 bird photography video I explain my settings and technique. Recently I had made another video using the Z50 for bird photography, but was having troubles and issues with certain factors, including focus. I made some changes and adjustments on the Z50 and now I can capture birds more efficiently and have a higher keeper rate.
The Nikon Z50 for bird photography certainly isn’t in the same class as the Nikon Z9, Canon R5 or Sony A1. But if you change some settings and adjust your style and technique, it can get some really cool results.

Nikon Z50 + Tamron 70-300mm Z Review | It’s GREAT, BUT…
In this video I pair the Nikon Z50 with the new release Tamron Z 70-300mm 4.5-6.3 Di III RXD lens. It certainly takes some amazing images in the right light, BUT I have just one issue with it. That issue can be sorted pretty easily though. Because of the Z50 1.5 crop factor, the lens transforms into 105mm to 450mm. This comes in very handy in a lot of situations where you need that bit of extra reach. Things like travel, landscape, bird and wildlife photography.
Given the Tamron Z 70-300mm is relatively low budget, I think this maybe a very good light weight and compact telephoto alternative for those with Nikon crop sensor cameras. So for hiking or jetting around the world and wanting to keep weight down, this Nikon Z50 + Tamron 70-300mm Z lens combo might be ideal.

Nikon Z50 Bird Photography | GOOD or GARBAGE?
I took the crop sensor Nikon Z50 with my Nikon AF-S 80-400mm G ED VR lens via the FTZII adaptor out to do some bird photography. This was an experiment to see how the Z50 would perform photographing birds. The results I got were a bit of a mishmash and I share them in this video.
I was surprised with some of the photos I got with this Nikon Z50 Bird Photography session. But there were times I got some photos sharp in focus and then others out of focus (sometimes the very next frame in a sequence). So I did some static tests back in my garden and found everything was ok with the lens etc. The next thing I want to try is some different settings on the camera in a few weeks to see how I go. I’ll make another video on that.

Nikon Z50 VS D750 & Z7 | Crop Sensor VS Full Frame | Astrophotography
In this video I compare images from the Nikon Z50 VS Nikon D750 photographing the Milky Way with the same settings and same lens (Nikon AF-S 14-24mm F2.8G Lens). Then I compare images of the Nikon Z50 vs Nikon Z7 photographing and videoing the full moon with the same settings and same lens (Nikon AF-S 80-400mm VR Lens). It’s a Nikon crop sensor vs full frame astrophotography shoot out. Some of the results did surprise me a little.
I was actually surprised in some of these comparisons especially the Nikon Z50 vs D750.

Nikon Z50 + Viltrox 13mm F1.4 Z Lens Astrophotography
Decided to test the Nikon Z50 + Viltrox AF 13mm F1.4 Z mount lens for some astrophotography. In my recent review of this wide angle Viltrox 13mm lens for the Nikon Z50, Zfc and Z30 cameras, I mentioned I was looking forward to testing it out for astro. Found a couple of dark locations near me and had relatively good conditions with cold weather and clear skies. I got up at 3am and headed out with this little astro combo.
With the release of the new APS-C Nikon Z30, again this Viltrox lens will prove very popular for those wanting a budget wide angle lens to vlog, do landscape, architecture, astro or street photography. No doubt being a budget lens in these harsher economic times will draw more sales.
The Nikon Z50 Astrophotography tests actually surprised me a little. I found the best apertures for clarity and sharpness were F2 to F2.8.
